Handmade ceramic Blue Trees brooch

This rectangular brooch has a simple stand of trees with the full moon rising behind. I have painted the detail in black and then put a wash of blue across the white clay, leaving shades of blue over the background and the trees. As with all my jewellery it is made and decorated completely by hand. After forming my brooches from fine white clay, I imprint the texture and design. When dry, I sand the sides and round off the corners to ensure they are super smooth to the touch. They then have their first firing. Next I paint them using under-glazes and apply a transparent glaze before firing again to earthenware. Brooches are glazed on the front and sides and are very smooth whilst retaining the texture of the imprinted design. The result is a pleasantly tactile item. The brooch bar is securely glued across the back. This is a one-off listing, the brooch in the photographs is the actual one you will receive. The brooch is approximately an inch and a half, 36mm wide and three quarters of an inch, 18mm high.
