About this item
Turtle Moon Mandala - 17.5cm (7") round plus yarn hanging loop, edging and danglers with handmade, painted paper beads - (Overall length approx 65cm). I printed the Turtle and bubbles design onto fabric with a lino print that I carved then painted it with fabric paints, outlined it in silver, then stitched in place. The background is a painted fabric (stiffened on the back to hold its shape). The background has 4 embossed metal bubbles/moons at each of the four directions (softened drinks can). Everything is secured in place with machine stitching. The mixed yarns and stitch colour are added to tone or compliment the finished piece Thanks for looking Vx

My love of the turtle inspired me to make these mandalas. As you may know there are many stories in various cultures about the turtle, my favourite being that the shell of the sea turtle having 13 main scutes represents the 13 lunar months of the year and that she represents Mother Earth. Here i have depicted her with spirals, bubbles and the four directions of the medicine wheel...with a bit of artistic licence.....
