About this item
This brooch in the style of a medieval long cross silver penny is made of lead-free pewter. I draw my design on to the pewter which I then raise and define using a boxwood tool. The raised design is then filled and left to harden and mounted on to a base and patinated and finally polished. This pewter does not tarnish like silver but can be buffed up if necessary with a silver cloth or wadding. The brooch measures 45mm in diameter and has a 25mm safety clasp on the back.

I love the detailed work on these medieval long cross silver hammered coins considering the fact that they were made during the 13th -15th century . The coins are only 20mm in diameter and the brooch that I have made is 45mm so you can see how much harder it was for them to cram in all that detail! amazing!
