Scrolling, in which a steel point is drawn through the surface of the red hot enamel, makes each scrolled piece an individual item that cannot be duplicated. Scrolling exploits the nature of the enamels and pits the designer against the materials - working at red hot on a material that is cooling as quickly as it can means you get what it allows you to have. Each piece is a challenge. There is an added challenge in working at this small scale.
