Smoky Joe brings together things I've loved for a long time: bones, dark aesthetics and vivid colour. Cerulean blue washes across the skull and dissolves into clouds of charcoal-grey and black, with two tiny points of brilliant blue glowing from the eye sockets.\n\nINSPIRATION\n\nThose blue eyes contain a small nod to one of my favourite fictional characters: Death from Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels. Smoky Joe isn't a depiction of Death, but the character's extraordinary blue eye-glow provided a little aesthetic inspiration.\n\nAs one of my earlier paintings, Smoky Joe has a particularly special place in my collection. Looking back at him now, I can see some of the visual ingredients that have continued to appear throughout my work: skulls and bones, beautiful-but-macabre imagery, deep shadows and unexpectedly vivid colour.\n\nAT A GLANCE\n\nOriginal, one-of-a-kind artwork\n\n14.6 by 19.7 cm\n\nWatercolour\n\nCream-coloured watercolour paper\n\nSold unframed\n\nCOLOUR PALETTE\n\nCerulean and bright sky blue, smoky charcoal, soft grey and black against warm cream paper, finished with tiny points of electric blue.\n\nFRAMING\n\nSold unframed, ready for you to choose a frame that suits your space.\n\nCONDITION AND CARE\n\nThe finished artwork will be protected with Dorland's Wax Medium before dispatch.\n\nThe display suggestion in the final image is a digital mock-up for display and scale reference.\n\nDesigned and painted by Ember Cant in Retford, Nottinghamshire, UK.","brand":"Ember Arts","product_id":8696833,"availability":"in stock","quantity":1,"product_expiration":"2027-01-19T08:31:56+00:00","images":["https://imagedelivery.net/0ObHXyjKhN5YJrtuYFSvjQ/i-d244ad4064ab1d011ca7d697ce2837b8-smoky-joe-original-blue-skull-watercolour-painting-gothic-wall-art-ember-arts/public","https://imagedelivery.net/0ObHXyjKhN5YJrtuYFSvjQ/i-fecfc9620211b8e971f209bf5cac13da-smoky-joe-original-blue-skull-watercolour-painting-gothic-wall-art-ember-arts/public","https://imagedelivery.net/0ObHXyjKhN5YJrtuYFSvjQ/i-f70eb86a4db4f3e9ec6dd93eef119388-smoky-joe-original-blue-skull-watercolour-painting-gothic-wall-art-ember-arts/public","https://imagedelivery.net/0ObHXyjKhN5YJrtuYFSvjQ/i-7f375adfc331e93b969d9c5a108fd8f6-smoky-joe-original-blue-skull-watercolour-painting-gothic-wall-art-ember-arts/public"]}
