These are good quality, medium sized pearls, smooth with no obvious flaws and a very good lustre. They described by the seller of the loose pearls as AA grade. Rice pearls are slightly elongated and irregular. This lack of regularity in shape adds to their charm and identifies them as genuine freshwater pearls. \r\n\r\nI have strung these pearls on silk: the traditional medium, and have knotted between each pearl, an old-fashioned technique that ensures a good drape and also security in the unlikely event that the silk breaks.\r\n\r\nI have finished the necklace with sterling silver findings: a tiny bead, French wire (gimp) and a trigger clasp.\r\n\r\nThe necklace is 46cms (18 ins) long.
