The supplier of the loose pearls describes the colour as ‘electric blue’. The pearls themselves are about 8mm in diameter and ‘near round’ in shape. Such pearls are often referred to as potato pearls. The lack of regularity in shape adds to their charm and identifies them as genuine freshwater pearls.\r\n\r\nThe pearls have generally smooth surfaces with a few minor flaws and a good lustre. There is a slight irregularity in colour; some are a little paler than others. The photographs show more detail. I have strung them on silk: the traditional medium, and have knotted between each pearl, an old-fashioned technique that ensures a good drape and also security in the unlikely event that the silk breaks.\r\n\r\nI have finished the necklace with sterling silver findings: a tiny bead, French wire (gimp) and a trigger clasp.\r\n\r\nThe necklace is 47cms (18.5 ins) long.
