I hadn't intended the gap between the two to be quite so long, but I seemed to spend quite some time doing landscapes in between. That was partly the reason for choosing to do this hoopoe, as it gave me the chance to use different colours to those you would normally expect in a landscape (apart from a sunset, maybe) and it was also a chance to combine the Faber Castell pastel pencils I'd been using with some soft pastel sticks and a paper called Clairefontaine Pastelmat that was new to me. I was so pleased with the paper that I tend to use it for most of my paintings now.\r\n\r\nThis painting measures 22 x 28 cm (or 30 x 36 including its light green double mount).
