A fern leaf has been pressed into the clay leaving an imprint, the dish is then shaped into a mould. During the drying process the leaf is carefully removed. The dish is then bisque fired to 1000C and hand-painted with a green glaze to highlight the shape of the leaf and a clear glaze has been added.
