The fordite has a 'V' of sparkly silver across the middle surrounded with swirling patters in white, navy, red and black. The top is smooth with a glossy polish but has undulations in it - these are due to the shape of the rough material that I cut it from and give it character. Measures 25mm by 23mm excluding the bail and comes in a gift box. It has a generous bail and you could easily pop it on a leather thong or cotton cord.\r\nNever heard of fordite? It's a build up of paint that happens in the spray booths at car factories, as each car was painted a new layer of paint would land on the rails which were used for moving the cars around the factory. With repeated curings this became hard and had to be removed, most was thrown away but some ended up in the hands of lapidarists who polish through the layers to show the different colours. The silver swoosh across the middle of this piece was the outside layer on the rough so the last coat of paint before it was removed. I believe this material came from one of the car plants around Detroit in the early 2000's based on the colours.
