I polish to give the metal a high sheen then I give it some color by carefully patinating with a combination of surface treatments. The brooch is then re polished which gives a beautiful vintage look to the metal.\n\n I really enjoy working in pewter, the color is so mellow and the metal has a lovely warm feel when you hold it. Modern pewter is lead free and really environmentally friendly, any off cuts and filings can be melted down and used again.\nI use clasps made from hard wearing steel, with a secure roller fastening. My brooch bars are carefully pinned and then soldered to the back of the brooch which makes them really secure.\n\n Making is my full time job.
