I polish to give the metal a high sheen then I give it some colour by carefully patinating with a combination of surface treatments. The brooch is then re polished which gives a beautiful vintage look to the metal.\n\nBrooches make fabulous Christmas presents........If you know that someone likes jewellery, but you don't know if they have pierced ears or you don't want to guess a finger size, then a brooch really fits the bill. Sometimes people may have allergies and can not wear anything made of metal next to their skin, but a lovely brooch that can be worn on a jacket sweater or a scarf is a lovely personal gift that solves that problem.\n I really enjoy working in pewter, the colour is so mellow and the metal has a lovely warm feel when you hold it.\n\nI use clasps made from hard wearing steel, with a secure roller fastening. My brooch bars are carefully pinned and then soldered to the back of the brooch which makes them really secure.\n\n Making is my full time job.
